Keeping a swimming pool properly balanced requires more than simply adding chlorine. pH and sanitizer levels continuously change due to sunlight, swimmers, temperature, water features, weather and normal pool operation.
Denver Pool Maintenance installs Pentair pool chemistry automation systems designed to continuously monitor water conditions and automatically make adjustments when needed.
For many residential pools, we recommend combining the Pentair IntelliChem® Water Chemistry Controller with an IntelliChlor® salt chlorine generator. IntelliChem monitors pH and ORP, while IntelliChlor generates chlorine from salt. When pH rises, IntelliChem can automatically activate an acid dosing system to bring it back toward the desired setpoint.
IntelliChem can also be configured for pools using liquid chlorine or bromine instead of salt, making it a flexible solution for residential, HOA and commercial swimming pools throughout the Denver metro area.
Pentair IntelliChem is an automated water chemistry controller that continuously monitors two important measurements:
pH measures how acidic or alkaline the pool water is. Maintaining pH within the proper range improves swimmer comfort, helps chlorine work effectively and helps protect pool surfaces and equipment.
ORP — Oxidation Reduction Potential measures the sanitizing activity of the water. Rather than simply measuring how much chlorine is present, ORP provides feedback about the water's ability to oxidize contaminants.
Using these readings, IntelliChem can automatically control compatible chemical equipment to maintain programmed chemistry targets.

Automation does not eliminate the need for periodic professional water testing, but it can dramatically reduce the amount of manual adjustment required between service visits.
One of the most useful applications for IntelliChem is automatic pH control on a saltwater pool.
Salt-chlorinated pools commonly experience upward pH drift during normal operation. Instead of waiting until the next pool service visit and manually adding acid, IntelliChem continually monitors pH.
When the pH rises above the programmed target, the controller can activate an acid dosing pump and deliver a controlled amount of muriatic acid into the circulating water.
After the chemical has had time to mix, IntelliChem checks the water again and determines whether additional adjustment is needed.
The result is much more consistent water chemistry with fewer large swings between service visits.
For homeowners who already have an IntelliChlor salt system but find themselves regularly adding acid, automated pH control can be a particularly valuable upgrade.
Pentair IntelliChlor converts ordinary pool salt into chlorine through electrolysis. Chlorine is generated while the pool circulates instead of relying primarily on manually added liquid chlorine or tablets.
Pentair's current generation includes the IntelliChlor Plus & LT product family, which succeeds earlier IntelliChlor and iChlor models.
Available models allow the salt chlorine generator to be sized according to the pool volume and chlorine demand.

IntelliChem can monitor ORP and use that information to control compatible IntelliChlor chlorine production toward the programmed sanitizer target.
A salt system is not required to use IntelliChem.
For pools using traditional liquid chlorine or bromine, IntelliChem can monitor ORP and activate an external chemical dosing pump when additional sanitizer is required.
The system can therefore automate both sides of water chemistry:
pH Control: IntelliChem monitors pH and controls an acid or CO₂ feed system.
Sanitizer Control: IntelliChem monitors ORP and controls compatible chlorine, bromine or IntelliChlor equipment.
